Clontarf suffered a sad loss earlier this summer not only in Gerry Ryan, who was mourned by the entire country but in champion of Dublin Bay, Sean Loftus. Known as Dublin Bay Loftus, Sean engaged in his own Battle of Clontarf fighting for many years to save Dublin Bay from further reclamation. Thankfully Sean’s memory will live on as many continue in the fight to keep Dublin Bay for the recreational use of Dublin people. www.dublinbaywatch.ie

On a happier note our very own Gerry Breen is Dublin’s new Lord Mayor and we are all very proud of him. If the sterling work Gerry has done with Dublin Baywatch not to mention his unfaltering support of local communities and initiatives is anything to go by, we can expect fantastic things to come out of the Mansion House. One of the Lord Mayor’s recent official duties included a walkabout around the villages of Dublin’s northside. Gerry visited Vernon Avenue in his capacity as Lord Mayor on Tuesday 24th August, taking lunch in Maloughneys and stopping in to chat with local traders. Back to school is in full swing which won’t put smiles on the faces of children but mum’s will find some comfort from a little less stress.
